That is exactly what I wanted to outline. College Student have mostly never completed a project from start to finish based on their own ideas: They always just had to finalize a given task in a controlled environment, which is basically the opposite of what is going on in the real world. From my experience this is particually true for machine learning engineers and data scientists. Having the bare knowledge is cool, but realizing it is a completely different story.
